His research includes light-elements formation, hydrogen molecules and first stars just after CMB finding in 1965, GZK-cutoff and relativity, finding new exact solution of Einstein's equation in 1973, concept of "four forces" bifurcation in the Early Universe and clustering of massive neutrinos around 1980, and other theoretical topics in relativity and cosmology. He was the principal investigator of experimental search for high-energy gamma-rays in New Zealand.
He is known in Japan as a writer of books on popular science and science community.
He also served as a Visiting Physicist of University of California (Berkeley), Editors of the Progress of Theoretical Physics and other journals, President of the Physical Society of Japan (JPS), Chair of Physics Committee of the Science Council of Japan (SCJ), and Chair of C19 of International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP).
