Astrophysics has made dramatic advancement in the past decades together with the rapid development of observational technologies.
Insight into the evolution of the cosmic structure and of black holes are remarkably deepened.
I shall focus on the important contribution of Japan in this process, and highlight the cases in which Japan-U.S. cooperation has played valuable roles.
